TIPS ON WRITING THE DATE

Write out the date. The year does not have an “and” in it. This would indicate a decimal! The year should look like this, “two thousand thriteen.” Note the lowercase “t” in “two.” This is correct English. The day and the month is capitalized. See “Saturday” and “June.”

TIPS ON WRITING THE TIME

You do not need to use the phrases “in the morning”, “in the afternoon”, or “in the evening.” When indicating 30 minutes after the hour, use “half after” not “half past” or “thirty.” Writing 4:30 would look like this, “at half after four o’clock.”

TIPS FOR WRITING THE LOCATION

You should write out the state in full and do not abbreviate. If guests are local, it is not necessary to write out the city or state.

DETAILS AND TIPS

“The honour of your presence” is only used when the ceremony is in a house of worship (and the British spelling of “honour” – with a u – is used); otherwise, the traditional wording is “The pleasure of your company is requested…”

Jewish weddings normally have the word “and” in place of “to” on the wedding invitation. This signifies that the bride is joined together in marriage with her groom. The couple is brought together to be married by God himself. The Jewish wedding celebrates the marriage of two families also, the names of the groom’s parents are always printed on the wedding invitation also.

Gifts are NEVER mentioned on the wedding invitation.

If you want to include “Black Tie” on your wedding invitation, this will go in the lower right corner of the invitation card. Normally in a bit smaller font size.

Roman Catholic weddings. If the wedding ceremony takes place during Catholic Mass, the wedding couple should alert guests by adding “Nuptial Mass” on the wedding invitation. A “Nuptial Mass” can take about one hour. Following is an example: “Mr. and Mrs. David Levene

Second marriages. When both the bride and groom are re-marrying, the couple issues the wedding invitations. Therefore the parents are not mentioned. If the bride is the getting married for the first time the parents may issue the wedding invitations. “Please share in our joy
at the marriage of our daughter…”
