Hello friends! Today I am sharing my favorite watercolor tools.
Brushes: I love Princeton Art & Brush Co. clear acrylic handle brushes No. 2, 4, 6, and 10.
Paper: I always use Canson Montval Watercolor Cold Press Blocks. I keep my paintings 8 x 10″ or smaller so I can easily scan in on my scanner to digitize them for printing. I love this paper because it is secured in a block pad and your paper does not warp while painting. Once your painting is complete you push the end of your paint brush through the side hole and peel off the one layer of paper. The painting is flat and lovely! UPDATE: I am loving Arches cold press 140lb watercolor block. It is perfect for super wet painting techniques.
Watercolor Paints: I have always used Winsor & Newton Cotman Watercolours (my favs are Sap Green, Permanent Rose and Viridian Hue as well as primary colors (red, yellow, blue and black to mix almost any color). Recently added Holbein Artists’ Watercolor paints in Gold, Jaune Brillant No. 2 (peach), Naples Yellow, Shell Pink to my collection.
Watercolor container: I love using a pyrex 2 cup glass container for my water.
Paper towels: I LOVE Aldi select-a-size paper towels on a roll. I use three sheets and fold in thirds then in half and keep the square in or near my left hand always.
Palette: If you are a newbie, you can use an old plate or paper plate to dab a bit of each paint color on it. Give a good 2″ of space between each color so they don’t touch and blend together. If you would like to invest in a palette, I love this large one by Jones, model 1216. They also make smaller and medium size ones you may love. You prepare your palette with your favorite colors and allow them to dry. Then when you are ready to paint, you add water to your brush and apply to the paint. Super easy and the paint is then reusable. The paints you see in my palette here are 1-2 years old! You never waste and just keep refreshening the paint and using over and over again. Once you use your paint up just add a bit more. Easy peasy!
